Jasmine’s artwork reveals things that are unsaid and unseen. She focuses on the small details and inner worlds within herself and in her relationships with others. Her body of work reconciles how these inner worlds fit (or don’t fit) into the reality of our world. She looks for a place of security in relation to her ancestors and what it looks like to carry on their legacies while coping with colonialism. Jasmine accesses cultural connections and self-reflection through playful imagination of herself as an outer alien finding its way home. Themes of cryptids, aliens, ghosts, and mythical creatures mirror the tension between a sense of belonging and dismissal of truth. The sincerity and light-heartedness of her work shares a vulnerability with her audience, which emanates a sense of acceptance and camaraderie. Even on the outskirts or in the middle of nowhere, you still have a place.
